The Athletic’s David Ornstein has provided an update over what happens next for Crystal Palace and Everton following Cenk Tosun’s injury.

The Turkey international – who signed for the Eagles on a six-month loan deal in January – only made five Premier League appearances for the south Londoners before suffering a serious knee injury in training recently, which looks likely to end his campaign.

The former Besiktas striker’s injury has also plunged his chances of participating at the European Championship this summer in doubt.

Tosun scored on his first start for Crystal Palace, netting the opening goal in the club’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium – his final appearance for the Eagles came against fierce rivals Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Ornstein has revealed that, if Everton decide to cancel the loan, they will pay the 28-year-old’s wages for the rest of the season, whereas if they don’t, then Crystal Palace will cover them – however, The Athletic journalist ‘presumes’ it will be cancelled and also imagines that Roy Hodgson’s side won’t trigger their £20m option to buy.
