Speaking at a press conference following Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Burnley in the Carabao Cup last 16, manager Pep Guardiola put an end to rumours linking makeshift defender Oleksandr Zinchenko with a move away, going on to confirm that he will stay at the Etihad Stadium.
Zinchenko, who has found game-time in his usual left-back slot difficult to come by recently, with both Benjamin Mendy and Joao Cancelo seemingly preferred, has also struggled with on-and-off fitness issues.
The Ukrainian, a regular at full-back over City’s 2018/19 Premier League-winning campaign, starting nearly half the matches in that season, was tipped with a move to Barcelona to free up squad space for reported transfer target Nicolas Tagliafico of Ajax.
Now, with Guardiola confirming that Zinchenko is still a part of his plans, some supporters are not too happy considering that it may well affect the Sky Blues’ ability to land another star defender.
